► The vineyard trails

Starting at the tourist office in a two km long circuit you will discover wine-growing. For about an hour along these trails you'll find twenty notices telling you about work in the vineyard, varieties of wine etc? ; this circuit will also offer you a very beautiful view of Turckheim, the hills at the foot of the Vosges mountains, and, in the distance, the plain of Alsace.

The Turckheim vineyard extends for about 500ha at an altitude of between 200 and 300 metres.

The underground is extremely varied : granite, gneiss, limestone, shale, sandstone.

The most prestigious site is the « Brand » vineyard : a small depression extending southwards enjoying a maximum of sunshine and sheltered from the cold East and North winds.

► The historical circuit

Turckheim has succeeded in preserving its medieval character with its three gates and important remains of ramparts.

A circuit of about 50 minutes starting at the Tourist office will allow you to see in addition to the three town gates and the other remarkable monuments, the Hôtel des Deux Clés, formerly the cabaret « A l'Aigle Noir » where Hortense Mancini, the Duke of Mazarin's wife used to stay, the house of the former "Boeuf Rouge" (Red Ox) inn and the house of l'Homme Sauvage (the Wild Man) today a restaurant.

The Royal Provost's former manor where Charles Grad, a publicist and politician was born, belongs now to a wine grower.

The tithe courtyard was the residence of the weights and mesures inspector of the Munster Abbey. This residence also belongs to a private owner today.
